Article 62 Measures for providers and deployers, in particular SMEs, including start-ups
Member States shall undertake the following actions:
provide SMEs, including start-ups, having a registered office or a branch in the Union, with priority access to the AI regulatory sandboxes, to the extent that they fulfil the eligibility conditions and selection criteria; the priority access shall not preclude other SMEs, including start-ups, other than those referred to in this paragraph from access to the AI regulatory sandbox means a controlled framework set up by a competent authority which offers providers or prospective providers of AI systems the possibility to develop, train, validate and test, where appropriate in real-world conditions, an innovative AI system, pursuant to a sandbox plan for a limited time under regulatory supervision;, provided that they also fulfil the eligibility conditions and selection criteria;
organise specific awareness raising and training activities on the application of this Regulation tailored to the needs of SMEs including start-ups, deployers means a natural or legal person, public authority, agency or other body using an AI system under its authority except where the AI system is used in the course of a personal non-professional activity; and, as appropriate, local public authorities;
utilise existing dedicated channels and where appropriate, establish new ones for communication with SMEs including start-ups, deployers means a natural or legal person, public authority, agency or other body using an AI system under its authority except where the AI system is used in the course of a personal non-professional activity;, other innovators and, as appropriate, local public authorities to provide advice and respond to queries about the implementation of this Regulation, including as regards participation in AI regulatory sandboxes;
facilitate the participation of SMEs and other relevant stakeholders in the standardisation development process.
The specific interests and needs of the SME providers means a natural or legal person, public authority, agency or other body that develops an AI system or a general-purpose AI model or that has an AI system or a general-purpose AI model developed and places it on the market or puts the AI system into service under its own name or trademark, whether for payment or free of charge;, including start-ups, shall be taken into account when setting the fees for conformity assessment means the process of demonstrating whether the requirements set out in Chapter III, Section 2 relating to a high-risk AI system have been fulfilled; under Article 43, reducing those fees proportionately to their size, market size and other relevant indicators.
The AI Office means the Commission’s function of contributing to the implementation, monitoring and supervision of AI systems and general-purpose AI models, and AI governance, provided for in Commission Decision of 24 January 2024; references in this Regulation to the AI Office shall be construed as references to the Commission; shall undertake the following actions:
provide standardised templates for areas covered by this Regulation, as specified by the Board in its request;
develop and maintain a single information platform providing easy to use information in relation to this Regulation for all operators means a provider, product manufacturer, deployer, authorised representative, importer or distributor; across the Union;
organise appropriate communication campaigns to raise awareness about the obligations arising from this Regulation;
evaluate and promote the convergence of best practices in public procurement procedures in relation to AI systems means a machine-based system that is designed to operate with varying levels of autonomy and that may exhibit adaptiveness after deployment, and that, for explicit or implicit objectives, infers, from the input it receives, how to generate outputs such as predictions, content, recommendations, or decisions that can influence physical or virtual environments;.
